Kallio, we like you already

As a friend from another agency described, 2020 was one hell of a year which didn’t discriminate but revealed dents and hiccups equally from everyone.

Every disruption is also an opportunity for reconfiguration and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing for the past couple of months, and while the pandemic isn’t over yet, 2021 is looking a lot better already.

Here’s an outline what’s been going on at our company.

New digs

First, we’ve moved! As the old office in Kaisaniemi was built for facilitating physical events, sessions and actually seating quite a lot of people, it didn’t serve us well during the pandemic, we decided to move on.

We spent a few months looking but were quite lucky to find an upgrade in terms of working space, opportunities for social distancing and various bubbles during and post-COVID19.

Our new address is Kaikukatu 2C in Kallio. The majority of our people will work safely from home until the pandemic passes, but as a company, we’re settled in and quite liking how things look and work. Compared to the old space we have now much more war rooms and separate spaces to work either alone or together. And don’t worry, once the pandemic passes we will throw a good old fashioned housewarming party we’re known for but that will have to wait for now.

Work picking up speed

We’ve been happy to notice many businesses are using the pandemic as an opportunity to rethink and reposition what they do, and how. Our long-standing relationships with companies such as Telia, ING and VR are blooming and also we’ve started several new projects, for example:

  • Helping a retail giant on how to serve their customers better and in more holistic manner, and of course designing services to match the new world
  • Working with a high growth company in education to crystallise the direction for their vision and product strategy, as well as building light segmentation models to help them understand and serve their customers better.
  • Winning and starting a long term collaboration with an energy company as a holistic business and service design partner on new services, customer understanding and transformation
  • Verbalising the targeted value proposition(s) of an old domestic industrial company working in circular economy.
  • Facilitating a large scale design-led transformation in an 80-year-old group of companies working in 30 countries globally.
  • Facilitating codesign and foresight work for a large European financial company.
  • Working with several startup companies and founders to get their business up and running.
  • Facilitating and helping a partner design team in finding their way to growth and maturity
  • Designing a value proposition and a playbook for a new kind of offering in the domestic travel and sports industry.

We’ve also worked on repositioning ourselves and rethinking of what we will aiming to do in the future. But more about this soon.

In case you are wondering, a while ago we decided to put our weeknotes on a infinite pause. They might appear occasionally, but for now we feel they ran their course in terms of ritual and content. Instead, we will be posting more actual insights, tools and content starting soon.

Regarding our insights, we prototyped a toolset for designing capacity before Christmas, and are working on our own, holistic organisational maturity toolkit. All of these will be revealed during the spring and we will keep you posted.
